As the seasons shift and autumn brings its colourful transformation, so too should our homes. While it’s true we often associate deep cleaning and decluttering with the arrival of spring, maintaining a clean and organized living space is a year-round endeavour. As a business obsessed with ensuring your bins are fresh and clean and beautiful on the inside, we thought we’d give you some pointers for getting the inside of your house back into some sort of state of grace now that the kids are truly back to school and the weekly routine is back for business.
Prepare for Cozy Comfort
As the leaves start to turn vibrant shades of red and orange and the air turns crisp, it’s time to prepare your home for the cozy days of autumn. Autumn cleaning almost certainly involves several crucial tasks:
- Deep Cleaning: Give your home a thorough cleaning to remove summer dust and prepare for more time indoors.
- Closet Overhaul: Swap out your summer wardrobe for warm, cozy clothes. Donate or store items you won’t need during the cold months.
- Heating Systems: Check and maintain heating systems to ensure they run efficiently during the colder months.
- A clean and organized space sets the stage for a cozy, inviting atmosphere.
So what counts as deep cleaning? We would suggest you pretend your mother is visiting and it has to be just so. So pull out the sofas, clean underneath the freezer, fridge and dishwasher, hoover under the beds. The other thing to do is clean your windows and your window frames. Our arachnid 8-legged friends may well have nestled comfortably in their corners so it’s a good plan to shift them before they settle in for the winter. Skirting boards too will benefit from a dust, a hoover, and a wipe.
Tackling all this in one go seems a bit harsh though so make a plan for when you’re going to do each chore, maybe tacked onto something else you’re going to be doing anyway. And get the kids involved – if they love spiders, get them doing the windows for example and get them to pull out their beds to see what treasure/dirty plates they discover underneath there.
Autumn also hosts Hallow’een and a good clean will get you in the mood for celebrating – or for sitting in near darkness as the trick and treaters wander past your house, not bothering you for sweeties!
A good autumn clean is going to set your home up nicely for Christmas. It won’t be quite as below par as it might have been for when your mother actually does come to visit. The great news is, at least your bins will be clean when you’re putting out any extra rubbish your autumn cleaning has surfaced, because Bin Cleaned cleans your bins all year round, which is just as well, because no one likes cleaning their own bins! No one at all.
